Tesla recalls its Cybertrucks because of accelerator pedal issue

staticwire | April 19, 2024

Tesla has issued a recall for nearly 4,000 of its 2024 Cybertrucks after discovering a potential issue with the accelerator pedals that could cause unintended acceleration and potentially lead to a crash. The announcement was made after reports surfaced that the pedals could become stuck, putting drivers at risk.

The National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed the recall, stating that at least 3,878 Cybertrucks were included in the safety notice. According to Reuters, the NHTSA is working closely with Tesla to address the issue and ensure the safety of affected vehicles.

The Wall Street Journal reported that soap used during the assembly process of the Cybertrucks could have caused the pedals to stick, resulting in unintended acceleration. This issue has prompted the company to take action and offer free repairs or replacements of the accelerator pedal assembly for affected owners.

Despite the recall, Tesla has assured customers that there have been no reported deaths, injuries, or crashes related to the accelerator pedal issue. The voluntary recall affects Cybertrucks manufactured between November 2023 and April 2024, with the company urging owners to contact Tesla and provide the recall number SB-24-33-003 for further assistance.

In response to the recall, Tesla’s stock prices have dropped for the sixth consecutive day, raising concerns among investors and analysts. The company’s reputation for innovation and cutting-edge technology has been called into question as it grapples with this setback.

As the situation continues to unfold, the NHTSA is monitoring the recall closely and working with Tesla to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to address the accelerator pedal issue. Customers are advised to check their vehicles and contact Tesla if they believe their Cybertruck is included in the recall.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety in the automotive industry and the need for thorough quality control measures to prevent such issues from arising in the future. Tesla is committed to addressing the problem promptly and ensuring the continued safety of its customers on the road.
