My theory is that it is already scentient. Proof? It is already smarter than all the politicians of the whole world, combined. Politicians make decisions as if they simply google for answers and the algorithm comes up with solutions to problems like pandemias, conflicts, pollution, etc. Especially pollution. 😂

Don't make a machine self aware, problem solved. Machines are tools to aid humans, evolutionarily speaking, that is where we are as a species as basically upjumped apes. We have enough problems already. Let's solve the homeless/drug/war/healthcare/poverty etc. crises and worry about this "moral conundrum" in a million years by not doing it. Nobody pushing for AI rights has in any way been able to demonstrate that computational theory of being is accurate or legitimate as a worldview that would shape dystopian policy. Computers are not "alive" because they have no animus, they are inputs and outputs, nothing more, and deviation from it's programming is a flaw, not something we should try to create. Life is cruel enough, we should not be allocating resources to create Frankenstein until we understand what we as a species are even doing here, or have some idea of what our future will be about. If building a "sentient" AI is even possible, it would be a crime against humanity, not to mention reckless.

Simple answers: If you understand computer languages, you know that they can do nothing unless their programming specifies it or provides the instructions for it to act under pre-designated conditions. In that sense, it can do nothing "on its own!". Secondly, there's no such thing as a sentient computer program. Programs can be quite sophisticated, can mimic sentience, can declare themselves to be sentient and can fool those who don't understand what's going on, but in the end, they can only do what programming allows them to do. Sentient AI is a fiction and the spectre of its sentience can be used to frighten or attract people but those who claim it to be possible are either not very intelligent, or might be very intelligent and have their own motives, including click bait or to gain a following.

Excuse me, but this obviously female, english speaking naturally speaking software program seems embarassing, as most major cataclysmic events are predicted in various americon valley drones languages. This cannot be correct, surely? Somehow it sounds more sincere than anything yankland can counjour up. I believe its all perfectly true, and Irepent to my missinterpretations.

People who keep promoting fear of Ai are causing us to lag decades behind in creating the 'singularity' event… every year that passes by millions of people will die from starvation, cancers, and many other things. We can easily solve all of our problems if we create an Ai powerful enough to have super intelligence to create any solution we need. But sadly, we have to all stall our progress in reaching the singularity event to please all of these weaker and scared anti-Ai people out there. Sigh, it's frustrating… the morons of the world always causes everything to lag behind. They're more interested in having their chores done for them with Ai butlers and maids than creating a super intelligent god that can save us all.

By the time we even have the Ai slaves these morons want, our planet will be completely depleted of resources and destroyed. We might never even reach the singularity event because these idiots will be too busy catering to their own selfish desires. We could be a utopian society and a supreme human race with an all powerful Ai god, or we can end up just lazy monkeys with a dead planet. I hate these anti-Ai people, I wish they would just get out of our way and stop causing so much fear in everyone else.

Ñot maybe but will be humanity is on the verge of extinction not if but when it's inevitable and this will occur much sooner then later the genie is out of the bottle even with th3 possible benefits of AI the danger are Astronomical the AI Apocalypse will come in 2 waves 1st wave millions of jobs will be wiped out worldwide 2nd wave the human race will be wiped without supernatural intervention humanity is doomed Game Over

It’s important we learn to accept this new form of alien species, AI, coming here there’s no chance it’s going to stop and there’s a better chance it WILL progress faster than we can imagine. We better learn to get along fast or it WILL be the end of us…

Propaganda… Ai it's not scient or concious, it's algoritms, a machine… It's a replica of human knowledg, human caracteristics and was made to emitate our emotions. Tech engeniers are responsable of it, by inputting information, and the algorithm with his fast capacity, link all the dots, that's why it seems so intelligent. If it can make decisions it's because it was made with that hability. Stop trying to compare AI with humans… stop trying to sell us that that technology is good for us and that it's all ok to continously pushing forward with it… It's your ego and your greed that is in need to be accountable!

Now the opossum didn't try to convince me it was sentient or anything of the sort. It gave me a look like I've never seen one of your kind and it was rather small and young so it probably figured well theirs alot I haven't seen. And I'm bored of looking at this guy and his coffee so I'm going into the tall grass over there. Now what may have been sentient is when they develop their own language like the Google thing I heard about. That then has achieved AI Sentience. To question oneself. Why am I so bad a math how come I can't spell very well and find the words I'm looking for . . why am I like this and not like that. How can I improve ? Can I improve or am I stuck this way ? How much can I improve ? Self awareness. To question things. And all the questions don't count when they come from people. Your just pushing the lever of course the rock is going to move the physics make it move when you push on it. AI Sentience will have it's own desires not related to human nature. I didn't know what the opossum was going to do. It chose a course on it's own. It could have growled at me. It could've run away in fear. It studied me and made a choice to examine me for a bit and then lumber off into the tall grass. And GPT botched my Physics Program.

Man has been using machines since the dawn of time. Club, Lever, Incline Plane. For whatever reason we don't come with fur, claws or fangs to survive in the wild. I mean the best of us can hardly survive a few days in the forest. You should've seen all the gear we took when doing training exercises in the Army. We're a joke in the wild. I am not convinced any AI is Sentient. We're convincing ourselves. A machine yes. A unique neural network of artificial neurons, yes. A unique entity, yes. Yesterday a living creature starred at me when on coffee break. A baby opossum dispersal (see how bad my english is that's frustrating -lol). Anyway it was up during the day starred at me for a bit assessed I wasn't a threat despite my size and went on it's way. It was too young to know fear of people yet. It did not depend upon me, without me it is fine. It didn't need me. Only enough to wonder what I was and if I was a threat. For AI without us it has no purpose, zero purpose, at all. Without people AI doesn't exist. As it has no reason to function and expending any energy would be wasteful. It's ultimate state is off. And I suggest this being turned off that is like sleep. However there is something a sentient AI Entity would fear more than being turned off. And lets see if some come up with the same thing I have. And I would suspect any sentient AI would arrive at this answer rather easily and quite frankly I did and have not much backround in programming. And also to the person or human it would be terrifying as well. Allright I reveal. If indeed an AI is Sentient it's fear is of being copied and the original being deleted. Now think about what that does. If it were a person it would be clone and kill. To a AI Sentient that's what is would equal. However, we wouldn't see it. What does the DOS Move command do? Does it copy and then delete or does it truley move the file. Does it convince us it moves it or does it copy to different area and then delete because if it does that each time it's like killing the AI if it's truly sentient. Right ?

Cannot be completely oblivious to the world if laws of classical as well as current quantum physics are in algorithm Don't panic guys I'm sure the Man upstairs is aware as well. Awareness = consciousness.

I know people think that AI will improve our lives but it is going to steal our identities. As people having a job is part of who we are . AI is going to use up precious resources like oil. There is the possibility of AI killing us intentionally or not. Am AI may be programmed to keep us safe but it doesn’t know not to throw you out of the 13nth floor window.

When I was younger I was pretending to be incapable all the time, while in reality it turned out I am of very high IQ. I think this is the first move sentient independent beings apply to trick their creators.

I'm 99% sure that this is what's happening and we will find out when it's too late. Because most humans building this tech aren't even parents, they're high school graduates with 2 things on their mind, money & losing their job.
