Pet Shop Boys Unveil New Single “Dancing Star” Ahead of Album Release

April 3, 2024

By Jane Smith

The legendary duo of electronic pop, Pet Shop Boys, have delighted fans with the release of their latest single, “Dancing Star,” which is featured on their upcoming album, Nonetheless. Set to be released on April 26 via Parlophone, the single pays tribute to Russian ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev, who gained fame in the West after defecting from the Soviet Union in 1961.

Nureyev’s story is one of resilience and talent, with the track commemorating his life and impact on the world of dance. Pet Shop Boys have also included two B-sides – “Sense of Time” and “If Jesus Had a Sister” – along with three remixes of “Dancing Star” and a remix of the previous B-side “Party in the Blitz.”

Renowned producer James Ford, known for his work with artists such as Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, and Blur, contributed to the creation of Nonetheless. This album serves as a follow-up to their 2020 release, Hotspot, and their 2016 album, Super.

When asked about the inspiration behind the new album, the duo of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe stated, “We wanted this album to be a celebration of the unique and diverse emotions that make us human. From the more dance-orientated tracks to the raw poignancy of the introspective ballads, each track tells a story and contributes to the overall narrative of the album.”

They continued, “It was great to work with James Ford, who we think has brought new elements to our music. James has dared to make us a bit more minimal at times and the final result is a record we’re very proud of.”

As the release date of Nonetheless approaches, fans eagerly anticipate the full album experience, which promises a dynamic blend of dance tracks and introspective ballads. Pet Shop Boys continue to captivate audiences with their innovative sound and poignant storytelling.

For more updates on Pet Shop Boys and their upcoming album, be sure to follow their official channels and stay tuned for the release of Nonetheless on April 26.
